Cedar Run Special Characteristics
Special Characteristics/Features:
The Cedar Run begins underground and flows a few miles before surfacing in Lower Allen Township. It then flows through miles of industrial areas, some of which paved over the stream, to residential areas of the Township. The Cedar Run eventually empties into the Yellow Breeches Creek, a world renowned recreation waterway for fishing, kayaking, and tubing.
Along the Cedar Run is Cedar Run Park. A park within Lower Allen Township designed to enhance the community and allow space for residents and visitors to enjoy the Cedar Run. The Master Plan for the park includes many stormwater features and educational signs in the park describing how stormwater can be managed on a property.
Recently, through grants from PA American Water Company, Lower Allen Township successfully planted a pollinator meadow and added more features to the Cedar Run Park.
Pockets of the Cedar Run used to be home to trout, which made the area popular among fishermen and especially fly-fishing demonstrations. Due to development and what some blame the expansion of the local quarry, fish have disappeared in the Cedar Run. Local lore regarding the decline of the Cedar Run is available but as we progress to the future, residents and local officials look to enhance the water quality of the Cedar Run and provide more opportunities for the public to enjoy green spaces surrounding the Cedar Run.
